About 1917 Farm & Market

100+ Years and 5 Generations

It all began in the year 1917…

My Grandfather and his brother purchased 20 acres in the Lynn Grove Community in beautiful southern Grimes County. Through the generations, the farm has been many things: a truck garden with sweet corn, watermelon and pumpkins; a beef cattle farm; a dairy farm and now chickens & beef cattle.

My Dad and Grandfather owned and operated a little country store just a few miles from here. It closed in the 60’s. We have the original sales counter, cash register and some shelving from that store in 1917 Market. The building is a remodeled ceramic block dairy barn constructed 50 years ago.

With lofty goals and a limited budget, we set out with a long term plan to make the farm profitable while maintaining the original nature and beauty of the land. A blend of modern technology and old fashioned ideals. Keeping in mind things like “first do no harm” and “always leave it better than you found it”.

We are the third generation, with children and grandchildren. There is a lot of so called “progress” happening in southern Grimes County. We want our little piece of it to stay like it was, so our grandchildren and their grandchildren can experience the connection to the land that we have.

  • We began a new journey in 2021 to bring a old style general store to our community. Our business ideas have grown a bit since our initial plan.
  • Our first product was chicken eggs, sold from our flock of happy pasture hens. We appreciate the amazing animal that chickens are and stive to keep our chickens happy.
  • The next products were our handmade items, barbwire crosses, wine bottle wind chimes and lamps made from vintage items.
  • Something a bit more modern, we then began to freeze dry eggs, fruits and candies. Vacuum sealed and stored properly, freeze dried foods can last up to 20 years.
  • In support of other local farmers and artisans of handmade goods, we have invited a select group to place their goods in our store.
  • Our goal is to offer only goods made USA with a preference for made in Texas.
green/blue egg hens

We hatch many of our own chickens here. Goals are egg color and hardiness.

Motley face heifer

When a Hereford is crossed with an Angus these cute motley faces are born.

LOLA and RUBY

They are actually quite friendly, they just refuse to pose for pictures.

Life is great in Lynn Grove, Texas!

I have lived here since I was a baby calf. The grass is green and the spring water is cool. It might get a little hot in the summer time, but all I have to do to cool off is jump in the pond. We roam around our pastures and lay in the shade, we do pretty much whatever we want. Our humans come out and check on us daily, making sure everyone is doing well. We visit with the happy chickens and goats. The neighbor’s dogs come over to visit every morning. They don’t stay too long, we get tired of their shenanigans and send them home. Good talking to you, come visit. “
